What Happened at Switch This Week?

Our Italian beauty Greta Menardo shows us how talented she is, with a podium finish at the Junior PKRA. Meanwhile, powerhouse Marc Jacobs trades his Combat for a board and a boat in the tropical lagoons of Aitutaki, Cook Islands, and the launch of two more quality products.

Greta Menardo takes 3rd place at the PKRA Juniors in Spain

Last week the 2014 Junior Kiteboarding Freestyle World Championships were held on the beautiful shores of Costa Brava, Spain. Waving the Switch flag was the talented, Greta Menardo from Italy.

Participating in the girls 14-16 age category, Greta had a disappointing start in the singles but worked hard with strong performances to forge her way up the ladder to 3rd place in the double eliminations. Demonstrating good power and speed in her tricks, Greta amazed her opponents and number one fan ‘dad Roberto’ to secure a spot on the podium and a placing at the Junior World Champs.

After a grueling semester at school with little to no kitesurfing, Greta couldn't wait for the summer holidays and her trip to the PKRA Juniors in Spain. There’s nothing like a road trip to shake off exam pressures and concentrate on her true passion, kitesurfing. With a junior medal under her belt, Greta’s next stop is Spain for the Fuerteventura Kiteboarding Grand Slam in a few weeks.

Switch would like to congratulate Greta and all who participated in the Junior World Champs. The future of kitesurfing is looking extremely promising with so many young kiteboarders.

Marc Jacobs training in Aitutaki

With snow on the mountains and the New Zealand ski season in full swing, Marc Jacobs and Daniel Kajavala from Switch HQ (aka camera/video guy), packed their bags and headed to sunny Aitutaki, for some valuable PKRA training.
Only a 45 minute flight from Rarotonga, Aitutaki is the second most visited island of the Cook Islands. A popular haven for kiteboarders, with trade winds offering consistently smooth breezes from June to September.

The picture postcard world of tropical lagoons and sparkling white sand seemed to be the perfect training spot for Mj to practice his powerhouse moves. With a light wind forecast for the first few days, Marc made the most of his time and turned to wakeboarding on his new MjComp2 twin tip board.

Let’s hope the breeze picks up for the rest of their stay and Marc nails a few good sessions before heading to Fuerteventura, Spain, for the 5th PKRA Freestyle event for 2014.
